A small bathroom does not need a renovation to feel organized. It needs the right storage in the right spots. Here are ten ideas we use in our own homes, none of which require a contractor.
1. Use the back of the door
The door is the largest unused surface in most bathrooms. A four-tier over-the-door organizer holds towels, hair tools and extra toiletries without a single screw.
2. Go vertical in the shower
Bottles on the tub floor collect grime and get knocked over. Two corner shelves mounted at chest height keep everything within reach and let water drain through.
3. Pull the under-sink cabinet forward
The cabinet under the sink is deep, dark and full of pipes. A two-tier sliding organizer brings the back row to the front, so cleaning supplies stop disappearing.
4. Give the counter a tray
A small acrylic organizer with a drawer keeps skincare and makeup in one clear zone. When everything has a place, wiping the counter takes ten seconds.
5. Add a bathtub caddy
An extendable bamboo caddy turns the tub into a place to actually relax, and stores a book and a candle when you are not using it.
6. Roll towels instead of folding them
Rolled towels fit in baskets and open shelves and look tidy even when the stack is uneven.
7. Decant what you can
Cotton pads, swabs and bath salts look neater and take less space in matching clear jars than in their original boxes.
8. Hang a second towel bar low on the wall
Mount a bar 18 inches above the floor, below the first one. Two bars hold four towels in the space of two.
9. Use drawer dividers for the vanity
Small acrylic trays turn a vanity drawer into a grid. Toothpaste, floss and razors stop rolling around together.
10. Keep only what you use
Every organizer works better when it holds less. Once a season, empty one shelf, throw out expired products and put back only what you reached for.
